Phnom Penh, 3rd of May 2007: A ChildSafe motodop brought clients to the central market and met a young migrant girl asking for people around the place for a job. He talked to the girl and called ChildSafe staff and informed them about this situation. The girl was interviewed by ChildSafe staff. She is 18 years old and came from Pursat province to look for a job in Phnom Penh as her family is extremely poor and she is half orphan. Then, the ChildSafe staff referred her to Safe Migration team for further action. On 5th of May, she was re-integrated to her hometown by Safe Migration staff. ChildSafe staff has paid the calling- and transportation fee for the motodop.

Sihanoukville, 1 April, 2007: On 1 April 2007, a ChildSafe tuk tuk driver from Sihanoukville, found a young girl, lost and very stressed at the side of the road near Sihanoukvilles O Moi district. The 12 year old girl was very afraid and could not communicate with anyone. He bought her immediately to M'Lop Tapang where staff welcomed her and tried to assess her needs. The MT medical and counseling team spent many hours trying to comfort and assess her needs. The little girl suffered from severe learning difficulties and could not speak. We had no information on her family situation or where she was from. Staff and older children from MT were able to reassure her and make her feel safe. She stayed with us in our night center for 2 nights while MT staff started to try and track down any information about her.

We worked closely with our ChildSafe member who found her. He also put out the word that we were trying to find her family. Within 2 days, a very distressed Father and Grandmother arrived, so relieved and full of happiness to be reunited with their daughter again. She had suffered from oxygen deprivation as a baby and had brain damage from that early age. She had wandered off and got lost and her parents had been hunting frantically for her since she disappeared.

MT outreach team assessed the family situation and helped take her home, and have followed up the family and child since.

Phnom Penh, 12th of March 2007: A newly trained staff member of a ChildSafe guesthouse in Phnom Penh called our ChildSafe trainer to report that a foreigner had brought a young girl, probably below the age of 18, to the guesthouse at midnight. He stopped both of them and asked for an ID card to see proof of the girl's age. They could not show an ID card. Finally, he did not allow them to stay in the guest house. ChildSafe paid him back the costs of his call.

Phnom Penh, 15th of February 2007: On the 15th of February a ChildSafe taxi-driver saw a young woman sitting in front of Ponchentong Airport around 9 PM. He thought she was a young migrant coming from the province. He went to talk to her. She told him she is 22 years old and comes from Battambang province. She came to Phnom Penh to find a job but did not find any. She does not know anyone and anywhere to go. Our ChildSafe member told her about the ChildSafe program and Mith Samlanh organization. She did not know about it, but was convinced that our member could help her thanks to the support of the other taxi-drivers working in this zone. They all know the ChildSafe program and Mith Samlanh and explained to the girl that the taxi-driver is a good man able to help her. She finally accepted to come with our member.
She is now attending the beauty class at Mith Samlanh Center.

Siem Reap, 28th of January 2007: At a ChildSafe hotel in Siem Reap, a guard saw a European customer bringing in a young boy to sleep at his hotel. When they arrived at the entry of hotel, the guard stopped them and explained to the client that he could not bring the young boy to sleep with him because having sex with children is illegal act in Cambodia and punishable by 20 years in prison. Meanwhile, the guard informed to the manager of the hotel. The manager arrived with another guard and they explained again the same thing to the client. Finally, the client released the boy.
